Facebook, with its immediacy and wide reach, has replaced this website as the location of my latest work, and the place to access many of my best previously published writings. Two earlier articles about Bernie Portenski were posted as tributes, for instance, at the time when I was privileged to conduct her funeral in Wellington on February 7, 2017.
Despite most people's preference for images and personal items, I sternly use Facebook as a vehicle for substantial writing.
My latest book
It's with a publisher in USA so I won't say much here, except that it's a unique mix of history, running history, and personal memoir. The current title is "Twenty Races That Changed the World." If you were alive at any point between 1948 and 2014, there will be something of interest, all written to the best of my ability.
With the major new running book complete, I've returned to some literary work. Coming soon in "New Zealand Books" is a review of "The Collected Poems of Alistair Te Ariki Campbell." I'm also back to Samuel Butler, an essay on the reception of his work in New Zealand, and beginning at last to shape a book on Butler.
