Roger's farewell as New Zealand national championships announcer

Roger's farewell as New Zealand national championships announcer

The New Zealand track and field championships at Wellington, March 6-8, 2015, were, I have vowed, my last. Since 1973, I've filled the demanding position of stadium announcer, usually as chief announcer, at many though not every NZ national championships. Two Commonwealth Games and many international track meetings have added an even higher level of challenge. While I'll willingly help at other future track meets and road races, I'm happy to pass on to others the three-day stresses of the track & field champs. It was pleasing to go out on a high, with the best coverage of every event we have ever had, and the biggest crowd for many years. Soon I'll find opportunity to write about my experiences and share some key ideas about this important role.
